Introduction

Cork may be Ireland’s second city but it punches above its weight when it comes to activities, holiday fun and anything else your group could be planning in the Rebel County. It’s a particularly great choice if your group is made up of foodies looking for exceptional food experiences to whet your appetites.

10 Reasons to visit Cork

  1. Many locals call Cork the ‘true capital’ of Ireland. Whether you agree or not, that’s reason enough to check this vibrant city out.
  2. With food in mind, you have to visit the English Market in the city centre for some of the best local produce you’ll find.
  3. Cork is famous for its foodie culture, so if your group are planning a trip or activity focused on food, then head to the English Market to start your taste journey.
  4. It’s the gateway to the Wild Atlantic Way. Start your journey in Cork and explore Ireland’s spectacular southwest and western coastlines.
  5. The first potato to be planted in Ireland was in Cork. Despite the potato’s complex history in Ireland, we still think it’s worth grabbing yourself a packet of Taytos and raising a crisp to honour the noble spud.
  6. If you need a bit of a confidence boost, then bless your group with the ‘gift of the gab’ and a visit to the famous Blarney Stone.
  7. The city itself is an incredibly walkable city. So, save your money on taxis and transport, get your walking shoes on and enjoy the fresh air.
  8. So you can say “I will, yeah…”, really mean “No” and have locals know what you mean.
  9. Get on a boat out to Spike Island to take in the harbour views and learn more about Cork’s military history.
  10. Cork country is home to over 1000 pubs – the most of any county in Ireland. Surely, that’s reason enough…

6 Top group activities & ideas in Cork

  1. Being the foodie capital of Ireland, you can’t pass up the opportunity to book a dinner for your group in one of the city’s best restaurants.
  2. Test your skills and creativity with a group Treasure Hunt.
  3. If you have the need for speed, then book your group in for a turn around the racetrack with a classic Karting activity.
  4. Host a Murder Mystery Dinner in your accommodation or a restaurant of your choice.
  5. Get your group up high and flying with a Ziptrails session just outside the city.
  6. Test your group’s speed and coordination with your very own session of The Cube. If you loved the gameshow, then your group will love these challenges!

Where to drink in Cork

  • Coughlans Bar, Douglas Street: If you’re looking for live music, the biggest gin collection in Munster and a really well-maintained old pub in Cork, then this bar is for you.
  • The Shelbourne Bar, MacCurtain Street: If whiskey is your thing or if you just want somewhere warm and classy to hang out in some bad weather, then get your group into the Shelbourne.
  • The Oval, Cnr Tucker Street: One of the most popular pubs in Cork, with a classic interior and lots of locals.

Getting to & around Cork

Cork may be in the far south of Ireland but it’s actually a very well-connected city. International travellers can fly there from many European destinations, direct to Cork Airport. If you’re travelling from inside Ireland then you can jump on a train (via Irish Rail) or bus (via Bus Eireann), often via Dublin. Once your group are in the city itself, you’ll be able to get around easily, with most things within easy walking distance.

The best things to see and do in Cork

  1. The English Market: If you love your food or you just want to see something unique in Cork, then you can’t miss this.
  2. Blarney Stone & Castle: See if you’re worthy to receive the gift of the gab when you kiss this famous stone.
  3. Fota Wildlife Park: Get up close and personal with some of the world’s most beautiful and exotic animals.
  4. Cork City Gaol: Take an evening tour and find out about the history of this Cork prison.
  5. Spike Island: If military history is your thing, then get out onto the harbour and visit this famous star-shaped fort.
  6. The Butter Museum: Love your butter? Then find out about the history of the golden stuff in this tasty museum experience.

When is the best time to travel to Cork?

Choose the sunnier months if you’re planning to do lots of outdoor activities or start your journey on the Wild Atlantic Way. However, Cork is a vibrant city to see at any time of the year. If your group would like it to be a bit quieter, then avoid bank holidays and the Jazz festival in October.

Do we need to pay a deposit to book?

No! You don’t pay anything upfront when you submit your booking request through our website and there’s no commitment. We’ll check availability for your chosen item(s) and, only once we’ve confirmed everything, we’ll ask you to pay for your spot on the event/trip (the full cost of one person) as the non-refundable deposit to secure the booking.
